REPRESENTATIVE AWARDS:
CABRILLO COLLEGE LADDERS PROJECT
The David and Lucille Packard Foundation awarded $250,000 for Phase 1 of the Ladders Project, a joint effort of all Santa Cruz County agencies and organizations involved in workforce development. Ladders helps all workers—and particularly low-income people—climb through combinations of education, training and work experience toward economic self-sufficiency. (1988)
THE BAY IT COLLABORATIVE FOR TECHNOLOGY WORKERS
For 2000-2002, the California Community Colleges receives $560,000 for a joint effort of Cisco, Microsoft and other industry leaders with all 27 San Francisco Bay Area Community Colleges to meet employers’ urgent needs for trained IT workers. (1999)
STATE-FUNDED PRESCHOOL AT AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECT (2000)
Food and Nutrition Services was awarded $88,892 from California preschool funds for the Vista Verde Child Development and Family Resource Center in a 76-unit low-income housing project in Watsonville. Funding for the center was also provided by the Packard and Kresge Foundations, Bank of America, and Local Initiative Support Corporation and Head Start. (2000)

CABRILLO COLLEGE, FAST TRACK TO WORK MENTORING PROGRAM
Cabrillo received $12,775 from a Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County donor-directed fund to match community college funds. The program matches local business and professional people with former welfare recipients completing employment preparation programs who need leads to jobs, coaching, referrals to community resources, and general advice and support. COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES (2006)
$12,000 to continue outreach for Spanish-speaking advocates for children who have been removed from their families due to abuse or neglect. CASAs are appointed by courts throughout the United States to present children’s needs and desires.
